As it enters its second year, the bi-annual film screening series, Asian Pop-Up Cinema, is on an ambitious trajectory to surpass the success of its first season by expanding on the dynamic range of cinematic treasures that pleased audiences and critics alike in the fall of 2015. Between February 17 – May 20, 2016, we will bring to Chicago an array of award-winning and star-studded Asian language films from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand, with majority to be shown theatrically in Chicago the first time.
THE MONKEY KING: UPROAR IN HEAVEN
A whimsical monkey challenges the rule of the gods in this classic restoration of Chinese animation composed of over 130,000 individually painted ink drawings.
