2024 Music Festival In Honor Of Confucius!!

RSVP HERE To Join us live for the finalist round and music festival at Roosevelt CCPA* on Saturday, May 18 from 9am – 4pm! 

After a hiatus, CFAS is pleased to announce that the Music Festival in Honor of Confucius (MFHC) is returning this year, and registration is now open!! 

As with the 34th annual festival, this year’s festival will feature a virtual preliminary round, followed by a live finalists’ round taking place on Saturday, May 18th in Roosevelt University’s Chicago Center for Performing Arts!* The live finalists’ round will feature a day of free festivities open to the public to provide young artists with the opportunity to learn more about and experience Chinese music and arts in many ways. This will include masterclasses for preliminary applicants to participate in, Chinese instrument demonstrations, concerts, interactive activities, and so much more! 

Important festival dates: 

  • January 1 – Registration Opens – Registration is now open – please follow this link for chamber music applications, and this link for all other applications. Please see our rules and requirements page for more information about requirements. 
  • Friday, April 26 – Registration closes – all preliminary audition videos are due 
  • Friday, May 10 – Finalists announced 
  • Saturday, May 18 – Live Finalist round at Roosevelt University
  • Winners’ Recital and Awards Ceremony –  Date and location TBA 

What’s New This Year? 

  • New Repertoire – Every 5 years, CFAS updates the repertoire lists – This year’s list features some exciting new arrangements by Chen Yi, Zhou Long, and some excellent repertoire by others. Be sure to check out repertoire lists for each division by following the links below: 
  • Viola Division! This year we have added a new viola division- please check out the viola repertoire here
  • New Location! This year the Live finalists round and festival will take place at Roosevelt University* (430 S. Michigan Ave.) 
  • As in previous years, the Music festival will feature a preliminary virtual audition, followed by a live finalists round. On the same day as the live finalist round, applicants who did not advance will have opportunities to perform in masterclasses, and attend free workshops and community events. 

We want to thank all the students, families, teachers, accompanists, volunteers, and supporters that have helped make the Music Festival in Honor of Confucius a success in the past and we look forward to seeing everyone again this spring!
