In collaboration with the Chinese Fine Arts Society, this performance will feature traditional celebratory works for the Chinese New Year, along with works by Jiuyue Ma and other Chinese composers.
Celebrating its 31st year, the Chinese Fine Arts Society, in partnership with the Chicago Cultural Center and Choose Chicago, kicks off the Year of the Sheep with a festive display of traditional Chinese dance, music, puppetry, and martial arts. Be dazzled by the movements and sounds of lion dancers as they beat their drums to scare away evil sprits and bring good luck for the New Year, and take in the beauty and elegance of traditional Chinese dance and music presented by some of Chicago’s finest artists. Don’t forget to wear red for good fortune!
As part of Navy Pier’s Neighborhoods of the World series, the Chinese Fine Arts Society will continue celebrating the Year of the Sheep with music, dance, crafts and local vendors. This is the perfect event to bring your family for an interactive experience they won’t soon forget!
CFAS and the Civitas Ensemble will co-present an all-Chinese concert on Sunday, March 15 at 3:00 pm at Nichols Hall. Works will include a world premiere by composer Yao Chen, as well as the completed work commissioned by CFAS titled “The Five Elements” by Zhou Long.
In celebration of Asian Heritage Month, the Finale will feature a world premiere by Huang Ruo written for and performed by violinist Rachel Barton Pine, as well as feature highlights from the entire series.
