Please join us for an introduction to the music of Central Asia with singer and multi-instrumentalist Tamir Hargana. A native of Mongolia, Mr. Hargana is an expert in khoomii (Mongolian and Tuvan overtone throat singing) and several types of folk instruments, including the morin khuur (Horse-head fiddle), Tuvan fiddle (igil), Tuvan lute (doshpuluur), and Mongolian lute (tovshuur). He will demonstrate the technique of traditional throat singing and explain the background and differences between the Mongolian and Tuvan style. He will also demonstrate how to accompany throat singing with traditional instruments and participants will have an opportunity to practice throat singing techniques.
Tamir has won many awards and prizes in throat singing competitions in Mongolia, Russian, Tuva, and China. He has performed and given workshops throughout the United States and abroad including Mongolia, Russia, Taiwan, Indonesia, and China.
