Each year, the Chinese Fine Arts Society presents the Illumination Award to an individual who exemplifies the volunteer spirit which is described in this famous quote from ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu:
“Giving to others selflessly and anonymously, radiating light throughout the world and illuminating your own darkness, your virtue becomes a sanctuary for yourself and all beings”
The 2016 Illumination honoree is Mr. Henry Fogel, former President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and current Dean of Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. The award was presented to Henry at our Moon Festival Gala at Pagoda Red on Saturday, September 17.
Henry first took an interest in the Chinese Fine Arts Society over a decade ago, and in recent years, he has been instrumental in transitioning the organization from an all-volunteer, event-driven organization, to a thriving entity which has become a leading presenter of Chinese arts in the greater Chicago area. We are deeply indebted to Henry for his tremendous insight and wisdom, as well has his willingness to roll up his shirtsleeves and do whatever needs to be done to accomplish the task at hand. Thank you Henry!
