2010 MFHC Repertoire Listing

Detailed repertoire information for each category is provided below.

CONFUCIUS COMPETITION - our flagship competition for cellists, violinists and pianists ages 18 years or younger. Each contestant performs one piece from the required Chinese repertoire, and one piece of the contestant’s choice to compete for cash prizes and earn Huang Zhong points towards participation trophies.   • MFHC: 2010-2014 Piano Repertoire
  • MFHC: 2010-2014 Violin Repertoire
  • MFHC: 2010-2014 Cello Repertoire
  • 2010 AMEI HU LIN SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION - for advanced musicians ages 18 or younger. The 2010 required repertoire is “Saliha” for Cello and Piano by Huang Xiao Long. Each duet group performs the required repertoire piece to compete for a $500 scholarship.

    2010 VIRGINIA GEYSER BEHRENDT SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION - for advanced musicians ages 25 or younger. This year’s required repertoire is “Memories of Home, Suite No. 1” for Piano by Tyzen Hsiao. Each contestant performs the required repertoire piece to compete for a $1200 scholarship.

    CHINESE INSTRUMENTS CATEGORY - for non-professional players of all Chinese instruments in any age group. There is no required age limit. This category will be run as a non-competitive festival for 2010. Participants are invited to perform a Chinese repertoire piece of their choice. Each participant will have a total performance time of 10 minutes. All participants will be awarded a MFHC-CIC Certificate of Participation and Huang Zhong participation points.

      HAPPY NEW YEAR!

      In Chinese mythology, dragons are considered auspicious creatures believed to control rain, hurricanes, and bodies of water. Used throughout history as a symbol for the Emperor, dragons are held in the highest regard. Among modern Chinese, babies born in the year of the dragon are especially sought after.

      The Year of the Dragon began on January 23, 2012. New Year celebrations last for 15 days, ending with the Lantern Festival on February 6.
