CFAS is pleased to announce its Third International Music Composition Competition, “Migratory Journeys.” Prizes will be awarded to composers who create new works inspired by the wandering, resettling, and emigration of Chinese diaspora population through the world. First prize Professional division: $3500, Student division: $500. Click here for links to information and competition guidelines and to register. After free registration ends on July 31, a $25 registration fee will apply.
QiXi: A Chinese Love Story
We are honored that Millennium Park has asked CFAS to reprise QiXi: A Chinese Love Story, our traveling performance which made its debut in July, 2009. This year's performance will be presented August 22, 2010 at 2:30 pm, beginning at Cloud Gate. Adler Planetarium will present companion programming for this year's event. Read more...
Music Festival in Honor of Confucius
This is our annual music performance competition open to young classical musicians of all cultural backgrounds from the greater Chicago area. The 2010 MFHC will be take place at Sherwood Community Music School at Columbia College Chicago on October 24, 2010. The new repertoire listing is here!

Chinese Cultural Week
The Chinese Fine Arts Society presents an array of events in Millennium Park as part of Chinese Cultural Week in Chicago from July 19 - 27. These include a dramatic reenactment of the Chinese legend – Qi Xi; daily family friendly music and dance presentations, and a classical concert on the Jay Pritzker Pavilion stage.

In Tribute: A Chinese Voyage
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Chinese Fine Arts Society pays tribute to its late founder, Barbara Tiao with an exquisite classical music concert at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion – In Tribute: A Chinese Voyage. The performance features luminaries such as internationally renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine, erhu player Betti Xiang, Chicago Symphony Orchestra assistant concertmaster Yuan Qing Yu and clarinetist John Bruce Yeh, the Chicago Pro Musica and the Cheng Da Percussion Ensemble. This concert is part of Millennium Park’s new series, Dusk Variations: A Chamber Series taking place on select Monday nights this summer.

China Spectacle in Millennium Park: Qi Xi
Kicking off the celebration of Chinese Cultural Week in Chicago and CFAS's 25th Anniversary on Sunday, July 19 at 2:30 pm is the China Spectacle – an engaging performance of music and dance which celebrates Qi Xi - the ancient Chinese love story of Niulang and Zhinu, the cowherd and the weaver fairy.

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, the Chinese Fine Arts Society is pleased to introduce the Music Festival in Honor of Confucius – Chinese Instruments Category (MFHC-CIC). It is open to nonprofessional players of all Chinese instruments in any age group.

We’re at the Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival July 19
The City of Evanston began its annual Ethnic Arts Festival in 1986. Each July, the Festival transforms the idyllic lakefront Dawes Park, Sheridan Rd. at Church St., into a global village.
