History

Founded in 1984, the Chinese Fine Arts Society (CFAS) is dedicated to the presentation, education and promotion of the Chinese arts. CFAS has established itself with widely attended and critically acclaimed cultural events in various venues involving the music community, arts community, and the public at large. Our core music programming consists of four interconnected programs, the Music Festival in Honor of Confucius, the All Chinese Music Concert, the International Music Composition Competitions, and our Community Engagement program, which work together to achieve our mission, simultaneously providing significant opportunities for Illinois-based musicians and composers, and the community at large.

Since our founding, Chinese Fine Arts Society has been the leading champion of Chinese Music in Chicago – from traditional to contemporary. Because we are on the leading edge of new Chinese music through our International Composition Competitions, we are able to present the highest quality concerts featuring these new compositions in the company of traditional works, all performed by Chicago’s top instrumental soloists – providing significant opportunities for Chicago-based musicians and composers. Our Music Festival is one of a kind in that it introduces children from every cultural background to Chinese music and allows the winning prodigies to perform in a professional setting.
