Thanks to all who came to listen to our concert on May 16 in Preston Bradley Hall! This eclectic FREE concert showcased traditional and contemporary chamber music for piano, strings, woodwinds, percussion, erhu, and chorus.

The program included works by award-winning composers Chen Yi and Vivian Fung, and the world premiere of 2009 Julia Liu Composition Competition Winner “Away” by Yang Qing. Special Guests Performers included the Fulcrum Point New Music Project musicians Stephen Burns, trumpet; Jeff Handley, percussion and Brandon Podjasek, percussion. The concert also featured: Gerald Carey, flute; Katherine Jui Chang, piano; David Cunliffe, cello; Alexander Li, Erhu; Desiree Ruhstrat, violin, Marta Aznavoorian, piano, Shirley Trissell, piano and the CFAS Chorus, Rita Lopienski conducting.   More info…

    Migratory Journeys Competition Announced!

    CFAS is pleased to announce its Third International Music Composition Competition, “Migratory Journeys.” Prizes will be awarded to composers who create new works inspired by the wandering, resettling, and emigration of Chinese diaspora population through the world.     Music Festival in Honor of Confucius

    This is our annual music performance competition open to young classical musicians of all cultural backgrounds from the greater Chicago area. The 2010 MFHC will be take place at Sherwood Community Music School at Columbia College Chicago on October 24, 2010. The new repertoire listing is here!
