CFAS is pleased to announce its Third International Music Composition Competition, “Migratory Journeys.” Prizes will be awarded to composers who create new works inspired by the wandering, resettling, and emigration of Chinese diaspora population through the world. QiXi: A Chinese Love Story
We are honored that Millennium Park has asked CFAS to reprise QiXi: A Chinese Love Story, our traveling performance which made its debut in July, 2009. This year's performance will be presented August 22, 2010 at 2:30 pm, beginning at Cloud Gate. Adler Planetarium will present companion programming for this year's event. Read more...
Music Festival in Honor of Confucius
This is our annual music performance competition open to young classical musicians of all cultural backgrounds from the greater Chicago area. The 2010 MFHC will be take place at Sherwood Community Music School at Columbia College Chicago on October 24, 2010. The new repertoire listing is here!

Chinese Cultural Week
The Chinese Fine Arts Society Celebrates Chinese Cultural Week in Chicago with Free Events for the Whole Family In Millennium Park and Navy Pier.
The Chinese Fine Arts Society presents an array of events in Millennium Park as part of Chinese Cultural Week in Chicago from July 19 – 27. These include a dramatic reenactment of the Chinese legend – Qi Xi; daily family friendly music and dance presentations, and a classical concert on the Jay Pritzker Pavilion stage.
Kicking off the celebration on Sunday, July 19 at 2:30 pm is the China Spectacle – an engaging performance of music and dance which celebrates Qi Xi – the ancient Chinese love story of Niulang and Zhinu, the cowherd and the weaver fairy. This colorful presentation travels from Cloud Gate to Wrigley Square to the Crown Fountain and back, and features Little Star Dance Troupe, Skyland Chinese Opera, Chicago Chinese Cultural Center Lion Dancers, Betty Haag Magical Strings of Youth, Cheng Da Percussion Ensemble, All Star Kung Fu and Championship Martial Arts Academy – truly an experience not to be missed!
On July 19, as part of Navy Pier’s celebration of Chinese Cultural Week in Chicago, enjoy a spectacular afternoon of Chinese music, dance and costumes, complete with lion dancers; martial arts and tai chi demonstrations; folk dances by Ling Ling Pao Dance Studio and demonstrations of traditional musical instruments. Fun for the entire family.
Beginning June 20 at 1 pm and 1:45 pm, there will be upbeat and inspiring Chinese traditional and folk music and dance performances on the Family Fun Festival stage on Chase Promenade North. The Little Star Dance Troupe performs on July 20 and 22, followed by renowned erhu player, Betty Xiang and the Magical Strings of Youth on July 23 and 25. Traditional Chinese instrumentalists Kerry Leung, Alexander Li and Judy Tseng take the stage on July 21 and the Chinese Fine Arts Society Chorus concludes the family performances on July 26
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Chinese Fine Arts Society pays tribute to its late founder, Barbara Tiao with an exquisite classical music concert at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion – In Tribute: A Chinese Voyage. The performance features luminaries such as internationally renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine, erhu player Betti Xiang, Chicago Symphony Orchestra assistant concertmaster Yuan Qing Yu and clarinetist John Bruce Yeh, the Chicago Pro Musica and the Cheng Da Percussion Ensemble. This concert is part of Millennium Park’s new series, Dusk Variations: A Chamber Series taking place on select Monday nights this summer.
